Pokémon Vending Craze: Discover Locations and Uncover Collectible Treasures

Pokémon vending machines are popping up across the US, sparking excitement among Pokémon fans. This article answers common questions about these automated retailers.

What are Pokémon Vending Machines?

Pokémon vending machines dispense Pokémon merchandise, primarily Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) products. While convenient, they aren't always budget-friendly. These aren't your grandpa's gumball machines; the current US models, initially tested in Washington in 2017, utilize touchscreens for easy browsing and credit card payment. Their bright colors and Pokémon branding make them easily noticeable in stores like Kroger, where I recently spotted one. The process is engaging, featuring charming Pokémon animations. Digital receipts are emailed, but returns aren't accepted.

What Do Pokémon Vending Machines Sell?

US Pokémon vending machines mainly stock Pokémon TCG products: Elite Trainer Boxes, booster packs, and related items. During a recent visit, even during a busy Thanksgiving weekend, the machine was surprisingly well-stocked (though the newest Elite Trainer Boxes were sold out). Unlike some Pokémon Center machines in Washington State (which are reportedly being phased out), these typically don't sell plushies, apparel, or video games.

How to Find a Pokémon Vending Machine Near You

The official Pokémon Center website lists all currently active US Pokémon TCG vending machines. Currently, machines are in: Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin. Check the website for specific store locations in your state. Distribution is currently concentrated in certain cities and partner grocery stores (Albertsons, Fred Meyer, Frys, Kroger, Pick ‘n Save, Safeway, Smith’s, and Tom Thumb). You can follow the Pokémon Center location list for updates on new machine installations.
