Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: Unveiled and Ultra-Thin
Samsung unveiled its latest flagship, the Galaxy S25 Edge, at the May Unpacked event. This new addition to the Galaxy lineup, while closely resembling the earlier 2025 model, the Galaxy S25, stands out with its notably thinner design, aptly named the 'Edge'.
When comparing specs, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge closely mirrors the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. Both devices are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and boast a high-resolution 200MP camera. The primary distinction lies in the chassis; the Galaxy S25 Edge has been streamlined to a mere 5.8mm thickness, a significant reduction from the 8.2mm of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This slimmer profile also makes the phone lighter, tipping the scales at just 163g.
Despite its larger size, the Galaxy S25 Edge retains the same 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X display found in the standard Galaxy S25, although it shares many specs with the slightly larger 6.9-inch display of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Given its thin and expansive design, durability is a crucial consideration. Samsung claims to have tackled this by upgrading to Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, touted to be more resilient than the Gorilla Glass Armor 2 used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The real test, however, will be its resistance to bending, particularly when subjected to the pressures of everyday carry, such as sitting on it in a pocket. Will it be enough to prevent a repeat of the infamous 'bendgate'?
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge also inherits the "Mobile AI" suite of tools that debuted with the Samsung Galaxy S24 and were enhanced in 2025. The Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset facilitates substantial on-device AI processing, enhancing privacy by minimizing reliance on cloud services. However, many AI applications still depend on cloud connectivity. Samsung introduces innovative features like notification and news article summaries, offering a quick overview for users on the go.
Preorders for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge are now open, starting at $1,099 for the 256GB model and $1,219 for the 512GB version. The phone is available in three elegant color options: Titanium Silver, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Icyblue.
