May 2025 PS Plus Game Linked to Hollywood Movie Release
It appears that one of the PlayStation Plus games for May 2025 may have been leaked. While Sony has yet to confirm anything officially, rumors suggest that the teen slasher horror game Until Dawn could be available as a free download for PlayStation players next month. The leaked key art hints at the possibility of it being the Until Dawn Remastered version rather than the original 2014 release, though this has not been verified. We'll provide an update as soon as we have official confirmation.
PlayStation Plus is a comprehensive online gaming service for PlayStation consoles, offering free monthly games, limited-time trials, online multiplayer, and exclusive member discounts. Subscribers to the Extra and Premium tiers also enjoy access to a vast catalog of current and classic games. Importantly, the monthly free games are accessible to all PlayStation Plus members, regardless of their subscription level.
According to speculation within the PlayStation subreddit (thanks to PushSquare), this move might be aimed at promoting the newly released Until Dawn movie. The film, which premiered just before the weekend, did not meet our expectations, earning a 5/10 in IGN's Until Dawn movie review. We noted that "Until Dawn is more disappointing than deadly, leaving all the promise of the horror game behind for a jumble of horror-movie re-creations."
Similarly, the 2024 remaster of Until Dawn received a 5/10 from us at IGN, where we described it as an "overpriced and under-featured remake that seems less like a must-have bit of moonlit murder and something closer to daylight robbery." In contrast, the original 2015 game by Supermassive Games was rated more favorably, earning a 7.5/10.
In other PlayStation Plus news, 22 games are scheduled to be removed from the service next month. This list includes popular titles such as Grand Theft Auto 5, Payday 2: Crimewave Edition, and the last playable versions of first-party titles Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2. As a result, Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 will no longer be available on modern consoles.
