Peter David, the acclaimed novelist and comic book writer known for iconic runs on The Incredible Hulk, Young Justice, and X-Factor, has passed away at age 68. The news was shared by David's longtime friend and collaborator Keith R.A. DeCandido through a Facebook post.

David enjoyed an extraordinary career spanning multiple decades at both Marvel and DC Comics. He is perhaps most celebrated for his groundbreaking 12-year work on Marvel's The Incredible Hulk, a defining run that completely redefined the dynamic between Bruce Banner and his monstrous alter ego. This seminal work earned David and artist Dale Keown the prestigious Eisner Award in 1992. Just as Frank Miller shaped Daredevil and Chris Claremont transformed the X-Men, David's interpretation remains the most significant and influential version of the Hulk in comic book history.

Among his many contributions to the Marvel Universe, David co-created the beloved Spider-Man 2099 character and delivered two critically-acclaimed runs on X-Factor. His first X-Factor tenure transformed the original five X-Men into a government-backed mutant team, while his later version reinvented them as a detective agency headed by Multiple Man (Jamie Madrox).

At DC Comics, David made significant impacts with his work on titles including Aquaman, Supergirl, and Young Justice. Beyond superhero comics, he became a staple of the Star Trek franchise - his 1994 novel Q-Squared remains one of the most celebrated Trek novels ever published.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen O'Shea David and their four children.
