Call of Duty's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover is sparking outrage among players due to its steep price. Unlocking all crossover items could cost players upwards of $90 in COD Points, prompting calls for Black Ops 6 to transition to a free-to-play model.

Activision's Black Ops 6 Season 02 Reloaded, released February 20th, introduced the TMNT crossover featuring individual premium bundles for each turtle (Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael). Each bundle is expected to cost 2,400 COD Points ($19.99), totaling $80 for the complete set.

The community's criticism centers on the lack of gameplay-impacting items in the crossover. Many argue the high cost is excessive, especially considering the cosmetics are purely aesthetic. The inclusion of a second premium event pass (following the Squid Game crossover) fuels concerns that Black Ops 6 is adopting a free-to-play monetization strategy, similar to Fortnite.

Activision's aggressive monetization isn't new, but the premium event pass model has intensified player backlash. The standardized monetization across the $70 Black Ops 6 and the free-to-play Warzone further exacerbates the issue. What might be acceptable for a free game isn't necessarily acceptable for a premium title.

The demand for Black Ops 6 Multiplayer to go free-to-play stems from the increasing similarity to free-to-play games like Fortnite and Warzone. However, Activision and Microsoft are unlikely to change course, given Black Ops 6's record-breaking launch and strong sales. The financial success clearly justifies the current monetization strategy for the company.
