DC Comics Unveils Major 2025 Plans for Batman, Superman, and Krypto

2025 promises a significant year for DC's Batman franchise. Following Chip Zdarsky's conclusion on Batman #157, Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee's Hush 2 storyline will launch in March. This sets the stage for a complete Batman relaunch with a new #1 issue, writer, and costume.

As announced at ComicsPro, Matt Fraction (Uncanny X-Men, The Invincible Iron Man) will helm the new Batman series, continuing with artist Jorge Jimenez. The duo have created a revamped Batsuit and Batmobile. The new suit adopts a classic blue and gray color scheme, departing from the familiar black and gray.

Fraction stated, "I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Batman. Jorge and I have a superhero-centric approach. We’ve got a new Batmobile, costume, new and familiar characters—all the elements that make Batman iconic." Batman #1 debuts in September 2025.

DC also highlighted its Superman initiatives, extending its "Summer of Superman" event. Supergirl will receive a new series and costume (designed by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau), written and illustrated by Sophie Campbell (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). The series will return Kara to Midvale.

Campbell commented, "Working on Supergirl feels like a return to my storytelling roots. My inspiration includes classic stories, the 1984 film, and the CW series."

Supergirl #1 releases May 14th.

Action Comics will feature a new creative team: Mark Waid (Justice League Unlimited) and Skylar Patridge (Resonant). The series will focus on Clark Kent's teenage years in Smallville, exploring his early experiences with his powers.

Waid explained, "The book begins with 15-year-old Clark learning to be a superhero. Skylar and I are modernizing Smallville, retaining its rustic charm while updating its visual representation."

Waid and Patridge's run commences with Action Comics #1087 in June.

Finally, Krypto will star in his own five-issue miniseries, Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton, as part of the DC All In initiative. Written by Ryan North (Fantastic Four) and illustrated by Mike Norton (Revival), the series will delve into Krypto's origin story.

North shared, "Krypto's origin has always been broadly sketched. The opportunity to fully develop his journey—a lost dog on a strange planet—was captivating. We portray Krypto as a real dog: no talking, no thought bubbles. Mike Norton's art perfectly conveys the unspoken emotions."

Krypto: The Last Dog of Krypton #1 launches June 18th.

ComicsPro also revealed Marvel's summer relaunch of Captain America, written by Zdarsky and drawn by Valerio Schiti. A preview of Godzilla's new interconnected comic universe was also showcased.
