This unsettling news came on the heels of import tariffs introduced by President Trump, which sent financial markets into a tailspin. The ripple effect didn't stop at the U.S. border; Nintendo Canada also announced that pre-orders in their region would face delays, dashing hopes of securing a console through a friend or relative in Winnipeg.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not commence on April 9, 2025, to align with the yet-to-be-determined pre-order timing in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada to the Canadian tech outlet MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged."

The announcement from Nintendo of Canada echoes a similar statement made to IGN by Nintendo of America on April 4, albeit without specific mention of the new tariffs.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, as we assess the potential impact of tariffs and the evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update the timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 remains unchanged."

While tomorrow was supposed to mark the start of pre-orders, there's still no clarity on when fans can begin the frantic process of refreshing their browsers and checking their credit card details, leaving gamers in a state of limbo and worried about potential price hikes from the initially announced price of $449.99.

Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have already gone live in the UK, with smaller retailers like EE, GAME, and Smyths seeing their stock vanish quickly. Scalpers have jumped on the opportunity, listing pre-orders on eBay for £500 ($639) or more, a significant markup over the retail price of £395.99 ($506).
