Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, has released patch 1.0.1, addressing player feedback following the game's full launch. The patch, available for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck, is the first of several planned updates focusing on community concerns. Initial player and press reviews were mixed, primarily citing issues with the user interface, limited map variety, and missing features. While Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the negative feedback, he expressed confidence in the game's long-term success with its core audience.

This initial patch, however, temporarily disables cross-play multiplayer between PC and console players to streamline PC updates. This change won't affect console-to-console or PC-to-PC multiplayer.

Gameplay:

• Resolved an issue causing shortened Ages in Epic and Marathon speed games.
• City-States now transition to Friendly Independent Powers during Age transitions instead of disappearing. They also begin with more units in Exploration and Modern Ages.

• AI less frequently offers high-value cities during peace deals.
• Reduced AI war declarations at the start of the Modern Age.
• AI considers ideology more heavily before declaring war or offering peace.
• Adjusted AI war and peace desires based on ideological alignment.

Camera:

• Fixed a native-resolution camera focusing issue on the minimap.

UI:

• Replaced the Simplified Chinese font (temporary, pending further improvements).
• Resolved issues preventing the Settlement menu from opening and yield icons from populating correctly.
• Fixed text cutoff on the Global Yields Breakdown screen.
• Added notifications for completed espionage actions.
• City projects are no longer incorrectly displayed as purchasable.
• The current religion is now prioritized in belief picker tabs.
• Fixed persistent health bars for fully healed Districts.
• Resolved missing leader portraits after relationship changes.
• Improved alignment of leader names and portraits on the Age Summary.
