Civilization 7 Dev Firaxis Says 'There's Hope for Gandhi, Yet'

Civilization VII has arrived, and a familiar face is missing: Gandhi. A staple of the series since 1991, his absence has sparked considerable discussion among veteran players. This isn't just nostalgia; Gandhi's inclusion has been a constant, even giving rise to the legendary (and ultimately mythical) "Nuclear Gandhi" bug.
So, where is he? Civilization VII Lead Designer Ed Beach offers reassurance, hinting at Gandhi's eventual return as DLC. “We haven't forgotten about anybody who's been in our game before,” Beach stated, acknowledging the concerns surrounding missing civilizations like Great Britain. He clarified that some civilizations fit better into a longer-term DLC roadmap.
Beach explained Firaxis' selection process, noting that even iconic civilizations like Mongolia and Persia were absent from previous base games. The sheer number of popular choices necessitates leaving some out, while also including fresh options. He assures fans that Gandhi is on their radar, leaving room for hope.
The statement confirms that Gandhi's absence is a strategic decision, not an oversight. His inclusion is anticipated, albeit likely not immediately.

In the meantime, Firaxis is likely addressing the mixed Steam reviews for Civilization VII. Criticisms include the user interface, limited map variety, and the feeling of a launch lacking expected features. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged the negative feedback but expressed confidence in the game's long-term success, calling its early performance "very encouraging."
