Firaxis Games is bringing the recently released Civilization VII to virtual reality.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII - VR, the franchise's first foray into VR, will launch Spring 2025 exclusively on the Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets. Developed by PlaySide Studios (known for The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners and Meta Horizon Worlds), this VR adaptation promises a unique experience.

Here's the official description:

Experience Civilization VII like never before. The game world unfolds on a Command Table, allowing players to zoom in for intricate detail or zoom out for a strategic overview. Engage directly with world leaders, forging alliances or declaring war. Play in immersive VR or mixed reality, seamlessly switching between modes. The VR experience places you in an ornate museum overlooking a personalized vista, while mixed reality adapts the Command Table to your physical space. Detailed dioramas in The Archives showcase your accomplishments. Online multiplayer supports up to four players.

The PC and console versions of Civilization VII, currently available via early access, have received mixed reception. Steam reviews cite UI issues, limited map variety, and missing features.

Firaxis has acknowledged this feedback, pledging improvements to the UI, the addition of team-based multiplayer, and more diverse map options.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, in an interview with IGN, addressed the negative reviews, expressing confidence that the core Civilization fanbase will appreciate the game with more playtime and describing its early performance as "very encouraging."
