Civilization 7 QoL Improvements Prioritized Over First In-Game Event

Civilization 7's highly anticipated first in-game event is taking a backseat to prioritize crucial quality-of-life improvements. Read on to discover more about the upcoming update and the future of Civ 7.
Firaxis Games Delays Civilization 7's Inaugural In-Game Event
Civilization 7 Prioritizes Quality-of-Life Enhancements
Firaxis Games announced in a February 28, 2025 update that Civilization 7 (Civ 7)'s first in-game event, "Natural Wonder Battle," will be postponed. This decision allows the developers to focus on essential quality-of-life improvements requested by the community. The update, detailed in their Development Roadmap, highlights this shift in priorities.
Update 1.1.0, launching March 4, 2025, on PC and consoles (with a separate Nintendo Switch release), will omit the planned event. Firaxis stated, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since its early access release, Civ 7 has received mixed reviews, with some players expressing concerns about certain features, particularly the user interface (UI). Firaxis acknowledged this feedback, stating, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI. We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0 Addresses Community Feedback
Update 1.1.0 directly addresses player feedback. While full patch notes will be released upon launch, Firaxis offered a preview: a new free natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle; significant UI improvements; enhanced Cultural Legacy Path and Victory in the Modern Age, with AI leaders now posing a more formidable challenge in achieving a Cultural Victory.
This update also marks the release of the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection. Firaxis confirmed, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."
Next Major Update Scheduled for March 25, 2025
The momentum continues with another major update slated for March 25, 2025 (subject to change). UI improvements remain a top priority, with Firaxis stating, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Future updates beyond March will introduce further enhancements, including a "one more turn" feature extending gameplay past the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), multiplayer improvements, and more.
Firaxis concluded, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
