A notable change in Elden Ring: Nightreign is the removal of the in-game message feature. Director Junya Ishizaki cited time constraints as the reason; with each play session lasting approximately forty minutes, there's insufficient time to utilize the messaging system. Ishizaki stated, "We removed the messaging function due to the limited time—approximately forty minutes—available within each session for sending or reading messages."
