A Night City Reunion?

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, promoting his role in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (where he shares the screen with Keanu Reeves again!), Idris Elba expressed his strong belief that a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation would be spectacular, particularly with himself and Keanu Reeves reprising their roles. He stated that the pairing of their characters would be "Whoa." He essentially voiced his desire to make this happen.

Reeves famously portrayed the iconic Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, while Elba played the pivotal role of Solomon Reed in the Phantom Liberty DLC. Their previous collaboration makes this idea even more appealing.

This isn't just wishful thinking. Variety reported in October 2023 that a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project is indeed in development, with CD Projekt Red partnering with Anonymous Content. While details remain scarce, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the Witcher live-action series suggests a Cyberpunk live-action adaptation is a strong possibility.

More Cyberpunk on the Horizon

Beyond the live-action prospect, the Cyberpunk universe continues to expand. A prequel manga to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, has launched, focusing on Rebecca and Pilar before joining Maine's crew. A Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also planned for 2025, and a new animated series is in the works. CD Projekt Red is clearly committed to expanding the Cyberpunk franchise across multiple media.
