Capcom has unveiled a remastered edition of the original Dead Rising, a title dormant since 2016's Dead Rising 4. Following successful Xbox 360 installments and the Xbox One launch title, Dead Rising 3, the franchise seemingly faded after a mixed reception to its fourth entry. While the original 2006 title was initially an Xbox 360 exclusive, an enhanced version later appeared across major platforms ahead of Dead Rising 4’s release. Meanwhile, Capcom focused on its sister franchise, Resident Evil, revitalizing it with acclaimed remakes and new installments like Resident Evil Village.

This renewed attention to the Resident Evil series overshadowed Dead Rising for years. Now, eight years later, the original Dead Rising returns as "Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster," announced via a brief YouTube trailer showcasing Frank West's iconic helicopter jump. Although release platforms and date remain unannounced, a late 2024 release is anticipated.

Even with a 2016 enhancement for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, this remaster promises improved visuals and performance. This raises expectations for potential remasters of subsequent Dead Rising titles. However, given Capcom's apparent focus on remastering rather than full-scale remakes, and the proven success of its Resident Evil remakes, the likelihood of similar ground-up overhauls for Dead Rising seems low. The possibility of a Dead Rising 5, however, remains a viable prospect.

This year has already seen a surge in successful remasters, including Persona 3 Reload, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and others. Should Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster arrive in 2024, it would join a growing list of Xbox 360-era remasters, further demonstrating the ongoing appeal of revisiting classic titles.
