Michael Sarnoski, acclaimed director of A Quiet Place: Day One, is set to take the helm for the much-anticipated live-action adaptation of Kojima Productions' groundbreaking video game, Death Stranding. According to Deadline, Sarnoski will not only direct but also pen the screenplay for this project, which will be co-produced by A24 and Kojima Productions, alongside Square Peg.

Sarnoski's credentials include directing and writing for the A Quiet Place spin-off Day One and the 2021 film Pig, which starred Nicolas Cage. He is also slated to write and direct The Death of Robin Hood, another upcoming A24 production, showcasing his growing relationship with the studio.

While specific plot details about the Death Stranding adaptation remain under wraps, the original 2019 game is ripe for cinematic adaptation. It features a post-apocalyptic setting where players navigate a fragmented America amidst an extinction-level event, battling eerie creatures and encountering bizarre phenomena. Hideo Kojima's flair for cinematic storytelling further enhances its potential as a film.

The game boasted an impressive ensemble cast, including Norman Reedus as protagonist Sam Bridges, along with Léa Seydoux, Mads Mikkelsen, Guillermo del Toro, and Margaret Qualley. It remains to be seen whether these actors will return for the live-action version.
