According to Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy, Disney is currently developing a secret Star Wars horror project.

The creative force behind the latest critically acclaimed entry in the galaxy far, far away discussed Lucasfilm's behind-the-scenes developments in a recent interview with Business Insider. When questioned about how he might approach a darker Star Wars story, he hinted that such an idea is already in motion at Disney.

"They're doing that. I think they're doing that," Gilroy remarked regarding the Star Wars horror project. "I think that's in the works, yeah."

If this information is accurate, it would finally allow Star Wars to explore the Dark Side in a way never before seen on screen. However, the exact nature of the project remains a mystery. It could take the form of a TV series, a movie, or something entirely different, with no official confirmation on who is creatively leading the initiative. It may be years before more details emerge about Lucasfilm's horror-themed Star Wars endeavor, but Gilroy's comments at least indicate that the idea is being considered at Disney.

"The right creator, the right moment, and the right atmosphere... you can accomplish anything," Gilroy added, reflecting on his experience with Andor. "So, my hope is that our show resonates with audiences, allowing us to pass on the same support we received from 'The Mandalorian' and provide a strong tailwind for others to create something equally innovative."

A full-fledged Star Wars horror film has been a long-standing dream for countless fans—even Mark Hamill—for years. While the expansive universe has extensively chronicled the Skywalkers and their surrounding characters, there remains ample opportunity to delve into its darker, unexplored corners.
