Dragon Age veteran Alix Wilton Regan has addressed the controversy surrounding last year's Dragon Age: The Veilguard, suggesting some critics were rooting against the game and BioWare from the start.

The actress, who voices the Female Inquisitor in both Dragon Age: Inquisition and The Veilguard, told IGN she was heartbroken to see the latest installment struggle despite generally favorable critical reception.

Voice Actor Defends Controversial Release

During an interview about her storied gaming career - including her upcoming role in Microsoft's Perfect Dark reboot - Wilton Regan reflected fondly on her time with BioWare while acknowledging her character's unlikely return.



"My heart goes out to the BioWare team facing such polarized responses," Wilton Regan shared about The Veilguard's reception. "I genuinely believed it captured BioWare's signature storytelling magic."

"There seemed to be this contingent of internet personalities determined to tear it down before launch," she continued. "The gaming community unfortunately has its share of toxic elements."

The RPG faced intense backlash regarding its diverse character options and LGBTQ+ representation, resulting in Steam review bombing and controversial player-generated tags like "political" and "woke."

"The pre-release vitriol was absurd," Wilton Regan noted. "Judging creative work before experiencing it? That's not criticism - that's prejudice masquerading as opinion."

EA later confirmed The Veilguard sold roughly half its projected units, coinciding with the departure of game director Corrine Busche and significant studio layoffs.

BioWare subsequently announced no planned future content for the title, effectively concluding post-launch support.

"I'll always champion BioWare's incredible talent," Wilton Regan affirmed. "Whatever comes next from them, I know it will be special. Their creative brilliance isn't going anywhere."

The restructured studio has now shifted focus to Mass Effect 5, though no release window has been confirmed.
