Robust Server Infrastructure

With Dune: Awakening's launch approaching, developer Funcom has addressed community concerns about server capacity in a recent Steam post. The team revealed their multi-layered server architecture designed to accommodate potentially thousands of concurrent players during the June release.

Players will begin by selecting a designated "home server" within one of hundreds of available Worlds (each containing 20+ servers). This structure enables social interaction across servers within the same World cluster while preventing overcrowding.

Funcom acknowledged potential server queues during peak periods but emphasized their preparation: "We're launching with thousands of servers organized into hundreds of Worlds, plus dynamic systems that prevent overpopulation on any single server."

"While each Hagga Basin server supports 40 concurrent players, their design accommodates hundreds of characters through natural population fluctuations," explained developers. "Our closed beta tests proved this system works, and we'll implement creation restrictions if servers approach capacity."

The MMO will support solo gameplay on Arrakis despite its multiplayer focus. While private servers won't launch with the game, Funcom confirmed they're planned for future updates.

Large-Scale Beta Weekend Details

From May 9-12, players can experience Dune: Awakening's systems firsthand through: Steam wishlist access, website registration, or Global LAN party codes. The beta will feature roughly 20-25 hours of content spanning early to mid-game progression.

Players will explore:

• The CHOAM architectural set
• Hagga Basin South region
• Eastern/Western Vermillius Gap
• Sandbike vehicles
• Early combat systems
• Act I story segments
