If you're a fan of Marvel Studios, you’ll want to pay close attention to the latest reveal from The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The final trailer not only gives us a more detailed look at Ralph Ineson’s Galactus but also includes one of Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer's first speaking lines. While Galactus’ face remains hidden in the trailer—despite already being visible in promotional merchandise—we do get a strong sense of the sheer scale and ominous presence of this cosmic-level threat.

More intriguingly, the trailer appears to confirm how Galactus plans to carry out his devastating goal of consuming Earth. A single, telling shot may hold the key to understanding the method behind the madness.

How Will Galactus Devour the Earth?

One standout moment in the trailer shows an enormous, mysterious device appearing in Paris. This structure, made of sweeping metallic arcs, is seen channeling energy skyward. It’s unlikely to be one of Reed Richards’ inventions, given its ominous visual tone and positioning. Instead, it looks like a critical component of Galactus’ plan.

This seems to depict one of several Elemental Converters deployed across the globe.In Marvel Comics, Galactus typically uses a tool known as the Elemental Converter to process entire planets into nourishment. Despite his immense size, he isn’t large enough to consume a planet whole. The Elemental Converter helps break down planetary matter and organic life into digestible energy, feeding his insatiable hunger. While Galactus can resort to literally devouring a world in extreme cases, this device represents his preferred—and more refined—method of consumption.

Based on the trailer, it’s safe to assume we’re seeing the Elemental Converter in action. It’s likely that Galactus and his Herald, the Silver Surfer, are deploying these massive arc-like structures around the globe to begin transforming Earth into sustenance. That means if the Fantastic Four hope to stand a chance, they’ll need to target these machines directly—cutting off Galactus’ food source before it’s too late.

Whatever the outcome, it could have dramatic consequences for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After all, we’ve already seen the Fantastic Four escaping to another universe in the post-credits scene of The New Avengers. Could that be their way of fleeing a doomed Earth consumed by Galactus? It’s a chilling possibility, and one that would make for a bold and unforgettable conclusion to their introductory film.
