"Fincher and Pitt's 'Hollywood' Sequel Headed to Netflix"

David Fincher and Brad Pitt are reportedly teaming up once again to bring a sequel to Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood to life. According to The Playlist, this unexpected project is set to land on Netflix, further cementing Fincher's relationship with the streaming service. The currently untitled sequel would see Pitt reprising his role as the stuntman Cliff Booth.
The screenplay for this sequel is an evolved version of Tarantino's previously shelved project, The Movie Critic, which was initially considered to be his final film. Tarantino, not ready to let the story die, handed the script over to Fincher. Netflix reportedly acquired the screenplay for $20 million, with a planned budget of $200 million. Filming is slated to begin in California in July, just three months away. While no additional casting has been confirmed, it's noted that Leonardo DiCaprio will not be returning as Rick Dalton. Both Fincher and Pitt are prioritizing this project, setting aside other commitments.
Deadline has confirmed these developments, noting that Pitt received Tarantino's approval to present the script to Fincher, setting the stage for this surprising collaboration.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which premiered in 2019, is considered a standout in Tarantino's filmography. The sequel has big shoes to fill, given the original's conclusive ending. However, the world of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has been further explored in other media. In 2021, Tarantino released a novelization that delved deeper into the film's setting and provided new insights into Cliff Booth's backstory, including whether he was responsible for his wife's death.
As fans eagerly await more details about the sequel, they can revisit Tarantino's thoughts on Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and how it compares to his other works. Additionally, the original film received a 7.8/10 review from us.
