FromSoftware Makes Bold Change in Elden Ring: Nightreign Feature Omitted
Elden Ring Nightreign: No In-Game Messaging System
FromSoftware has confirmed that Elden Ring Nightreign will not feature an in-game messaging system, a staple of the Soulsborne series. This decision, according to game director Junya Ishizaki (in a January 3rd interview with IGN Japan), is a practical one. The fast-paced, multiplayer-focused design of Nightreign, with anticipated play sessions of roughly 40 minutes, leaves insufficient time for players to engage with the asynchronous messaging system.
While this key feature is absent, other asynchronous elements will remain and even be enhanced. The bloodstain mechanic, for example, will return, offering players more information about previous player deaths and even the opportunity to loot fallen ghosts.
FromSoftware's vision for Nightreign is a "compressed RPG," prioritizing intense, multiplayer experiences with minimal downtime. This focus on a more streamlined and action-packed gameplay loop, structured around three-day cycles, directly influenced the decision to remove the messaging system.
The game, revealed at TGA 2024, is currently slated for a 2025 release, though a precise date remains unannounced. Despite the omission of the messaging system, FromSoftware aims to deliver a diverse and engaging experience.
