The creators of Frostpunk dropped an unexpected bombshell on April 24 via Twitter (X). Rather than announcing an entirely new project, 11 bit Studios revealed they're completely remaking their original 2018 hit using powerful Unreal Engine technology.

This ambitious remake promises significant upgrades including a brand-new Purpose Path system and finally implementing the mod support fans have requested for years. The developers emphasized their commitment to preserving the original's essence while enhancing every aspect.

This marks a major transition for the studio as they retire their proprietary Liquid Engine. After experiencing Unreal Engine 5's capabilities during Frostpunk 2's development, the team realized the potential to transform their first game beyond what was technically possible originally.

Targeting 2027 Release Window

Currently in active development with a planned 2027 launch, Frostpunk 1886 aims to serve as both the perfect entry point for new players and a definitive version for series veterans. The developers envision creating an experience worth replaying for years to come.
