NPIXEL has officially announced the closure of Gran Saga, marking the end of its brief international journey. The service will cease on April 30th, 2025, and in-app purchases along with downloads have already been disabled.

Originally launched in Japan in 2021 to a warm reception, Gran Saga made its global debut in November 2024. However, it struggled to maintain its momentum and lasted just six months before the decision to shut down was made.

The primary reasons for the closure appear to be financial instability and challenges in sustaining a viable service. Although Gran Saga started strong, it failed to carve out a significant presence in the fiercely competitive global market. The genre is dominated by well-established games with loyal followings, making it challenging for newcomers to succeed without offering something revolutionary. Despite its initial success in Japan, Gran Saga couldn't replicate this internationally, resulting in its premature closure.

This closure adds to the increasing trend of gacha RPGs shutting down. Just last month, I reported on the closure of My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero, among others. The market is oversaturated, and players often prefer to stick with familiar titles, which makes it difficult for new or niche games to survive in the long run.

For those who recently made purchases and are seeking refunds, you have until May 30th to submit your request. Please note that refunds may not be possible if the items have been used or due to other store policies.
