Harry Potter Cast Member Deaths, In Chronological Order

Since the premiere of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 2001, over two decades of cinematic magic have unfolded. With this passage of time, we've sadly had to bid farewell to many of the talented actors who brought J.K. Rowling's wizarding world to life.

Richard Harris – Original Dumbledore

Harris portrayed Albus Dumbledore in the first two films before passing from Hodgkin's Disease in 2002 at age 72.

Robert Knox – Marcus Belby

The young actor who played Slug Club member Marcus Belby in The Half-Blood Prince tragically died in a stabbing incident in 2008 at just 18. His minor role wasn't recast in subsequent films.

Elizabeth Spriggs – Original Fat Lady

Spriggs voiced the singing portrait guarding Gryffindor Tower until Prisoner of Azkaban's redesign. She passed in 2008 at 78.

Timothy Bateson – Kreacher

This veteran actor voiced the Black family's house-elf in Order of the Phoenix before his death in 2009 at 83. Simon McBurney later took over the role.

Jimmy Gardner – Knight Bus Driver Ernie
