NetEase's collectible card game, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, is shutting down in select regions. The end-of-service (EOS) announcement affects the Americas, Europe, and Oceania, with servers ceasing operation on October 29th, 2024. Players in Asia and certain MENA regions can continue playing.

Initially released in China in September 2021, the game saw a strong launch but faced delays before its global debut in June 2022. While its Clash Royale-inspired gameplay and wizarding world theme initially resonated with players, the game ultimately failed to maintain its momentum.

The decision to shut down stems from a combination of factors. Reddit discussions highlight player frustration with a shift towards pay-to-win mechanics. Reworking the reward system, which previously favored skilled players, slowed progression for free-to-play users, leading to significant negative feedback. The game's removal from the Google Play Store in affected regions further underscores the impending closure.

Despite its demise in these regions, the game retains its charm for those still able to access it. Players can enjoy dorm life, attend classes, uncover mysteries, and engage in wizarding duels. The game, launched in 2021 following its 2020 announcement, ultimately couldn't overcome its challenges.
