Helldivers 2 has rolled out its major update 01.003.000, introducing new Illuminate adversaries, weapon customization systems, and Superstore improvements across PC and PlayStation 5 platforms.

After multiple teases from developer Arrowhead, the long-awaited Illuminate faction invasion has commenced. The PlayStation Blog details frightening new combatants including Stingray fighter jets that execute deadly strafing runs and Crescent Overseers capable of bombarding entrenched Helldivers. Perhaps most terrifying is the Fleshmob - described as a grotesque amalgamation of failed Illuminate experiments that demands concentrated firepower to eliminate.

Attention, Helldivers: This is a Galactic Emergency.
The true Illuminate invasion has begun. In a sudden and completely unprovoked offensive manoeuvre, the full Illuminate fleet is emerging from the Meridia Singularity. Nothing is safe - not even the Heart of Democracy itself.

For the first time, Helldivers can customize their primary weapons through an all-new progression system. Completing missions levels up weapons, unlocking attachment slots for scopes, magazines, muzzles and under-barrel modifications. Players can further personalize firearms with unique camouflage patterns.

Arrowhead has also prepared exclusive Viper Commando cosmetic patterns from previous Warbonds, scheduled to unlock on May 15 alongside the Masters of Ceremony update. The Superstore now permanently stocks all available items rather than cycling limited inventories.

Beyond new content, the patch delivers comprehensive gameplay adjustments affecting weapon handling, melee stamina costs, environmental hazards and fire mechanics. Veteran Helldivers will need to adapt their strategies against tougher Illuminate threats.
