Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.1 Leak Hints at Free 4-Star Character Selector

A recent leak suggests Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.1 will include a free 4-star character selector, likely tied to a limited-time event. This follows the release of numerous 5-star characters, resulting in a slower addition of new 4-star units.

The leak, originating from prominent leaker HomDGCat, proposes a choice between Qingque, Pela, Serval, and Asta. These characters, all introduced in Version 1.0 (with Asta being an early-game acquisition), are available for purchase in the in-game store. This selector's inclusion could reinforce speculation that developer HoYoverse is prioritizing 5-star character releases. Rumors indicate all upcoming characters are 5-star, with the anticipated addition of eight new 5-star units in Version 3.0 and a further two from the upcoming Fate/Stay Night crossover.

The disparity between 4-star and 5-star character numbers is significant; nearly 40 5-star units exist compared to 23 4-star units. While some 4-stars, like Moze and Gallagher, have gained popularity, their effectiveness often hinges on high Eidolon levels. Previous versions (2.1 and 2.7) offered free character selectors to facilitate Eidolon acquisition, suggesting this Version 3.1 event follows a similar pattern.

The Version 3.0 update introduces the much-anticipated characters Herta and Aglaea, alongside new gameplay features. To bolster players' resources for upcoming banners, HoYoverse recently distributed redeem codes for Stellar Jades and materials. The potential scarcity of new 4-star units for future selectors remains a concern, however, given the release of only four new 4-star characters (including March 7th's alternate form) during Version 2.0.
