Nintendo's 2021 remakes of the Famicom Detective Club games were already impressive. The 2024 release of Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club, both physically and digitally, is a stunning addition to the series. It feels like a genuine sequel, boasts a lavish production, and delivers a shockingly good, M-rated conclusion. VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action ($14.99)

A repeated favorite on my "best of" lists, VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action shines through its compelling narrative, memorable music, striking aesthetic, and exceptional characters. It's a game I wholeheartedly recommend to everyone, regardless of their preference for point-and-click adventures. Mix drinks, change lives – you won't regret it.

The House in Fata Morgana: Dreams of the Revenants Edition ($39.99)

The House in Fata Morgana: Dreams of the Revenants Edition is the definitive version of a storytelling masterpiece. This pure visual novel, enhanced with additional content, offers a stunning gothic horror experience with unforgettable music and a narrative that lingers long after the credits roll.

Coffee Talk Episode 1+2 ($12.99 + $14.99)

While sold separately on the eShop, a North American bundle exists, justifying their inclusion as one entry. Although not reaching the heights of VA-11 Hall-A, Coffee Talk offers a relaxing experience with a charming story, appealing pixel art, and delightful music. A perfect choice for coffee lovers who enjoy engaging characters.

Type-Moon's Visual Novels: Tsukihime, Fate/stay night, and Mahoyo (Variable)

This entry encompasses three titles: Tsukihime, Fate/stay night Remastered, and Witch on the Holy Night (Mahoyo). All are lengthy but rewarding. Fate/stay night serves as an excellent introduction to the genre, while the Tsukihime remake is highly recommended. Witch on the Holy Night follows as a strong contender in terms of quality.

PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo ($19.99)

PARANORMASIGHT: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo surprised me with its exceptional narrative, compelling delivery, and engaging mechanics. Square Enix has crafted a fantastic mystery adventure game with memorable characters, impressive visuals, and a unique approach to storytelling.

Gnosia ($24.99)

Described as a sci-fi social deduction RPG, Gnosia blends adventure and visual novel elements. Identifying the Gnosia through information gathering and voting makes for a captivating experience, despite some minor RNG-related inconsistencies. A delightful surprise within the genre.

Steins;Gate Series (Variable)

Spike Chunsoft's Steins;Gate series, particularly Steins;Gate Elite, is crucial for introducing newcomers to visual novels. While I await the original version's release, Steins;Gate Elite is an excellent starting point, especially for anime fans. This entry includes multiple games, reflecting the series' significance.

AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES and nirvanA Initiative (Variable)

The collaboration of Zero Escape creator Kotaro Uchikoshi and No More Heroes character designer Yusuke Kozaki results in two exceptional adventure games. AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES and nirvanA Initiative deliver exceptional storytelling, music, and characters, making them well worth their price.

NEEDY STREAMER OVERLOAD ($19.99)

This adventure game with multiple endings oscillates between disturbing horror and heartwarming moments, following a young streamer's daily life. A memorable and unique experience.

Ace Attorney Series (Variable)

Capcom's complete Ace Attorney series on Switch, including multiple trilogies and collections, offers a comprehensive adventure game experience. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles provides an excellent entry point for newcomers.

Spirit Hunter: Death Mark, NG, and Death Mark II (Variable)

The Spirit Hunter trilogy blends horror, adventure, and visual novel elements with a striking art style. While the grotesque imagery may not appeal to all, the excellent localization and storytelling make it a memorable experience.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim ($59.99)

This sci-fi masterpiece from Vanillaware and Atlus combines real-time strategy battles with a compelling narrative. A must-play experience, regardless of platform.
