The future of MultiVersus hangs in the balance, with Season 5 potentially being its final chapter. This claim originates from AusilMV, a known games leaker with a credible track record.
A source close to AusilMV suggests Season 5 is a last-gasp attempt to revive the game's dwindling player base. While currently just a rumor, the situation is undeniably precarious.
The game's initial launch in 2022 saw phenomenal success, peaking at 153,000 concurrent Steam players. However, a dramatic 99% player drop followed shortly thereafter, leading Warner Bros. Games to shut down the project in June 2023, controversially labeling it an "open beta test." A relaunch with updates occurred in May 2024, yet the game failed to recapture its initial popularity.
Season 5, commencing in early February, represents a make-or-break moment for the developers. Their hopes rest on reigniting player engagement.
Essentially, the current iteration of MultiVersus is a relaunched version, cleverly disguised as a continuation from the initial 2022 "beta" release.
