Gunn Teases Major Cameo in Peacemaker Season Finale
DCU head James Gunn has hinted at what seems to be a major cameo appearance late in Peacemaker Season 2, though he didn't specify if it's a character from the upcoming Superman film or another figure within the rebooted DC Universe.
This summer's Superman movie takes place before Peacemaker Season 2, which debuts on HBO Max (yes, the name has reverted) on August 21, 2025. Supergirl arrives on June 26, 2026, while a release date for the Lanterns series remains unannounced. Both are set in the same universe after the events of Superman and Peacemaker Season 2.
Earlier this month, Max released a new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, showing Superman-related characters Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner interviewing Peacemaker for a spot in their team—with Peacemaker struggling to make a good impression.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn stated that Peacemaker Season 2 is "deeply connected to Superman and what unfolds afterward," with even more links across the series.
"You saw what we refer to as the QUC, or Quantum Unfolding Chamber, in Peacemaker's first season, and we explore more of that same technology in Superman," Gunn explained.
"The QUC is central to Peacemaker Season 2. You'll see several characters from Superman—like Isabela, Nathan, and Sean—along with other characters later in the season from different corners of the DCU as well as the Superman film. There might even be one very significant cameo toward the end of the show."
Gunn also confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 takes place a few years after the Season 1 finale, though the DCU timeline isn't strictly defined. "Having experienced how challenging it is to align everything perfectly from my time at Marvel, it's an unspecified period of a couple of years," he said.

As recent months have shown, a wide range of characters will appear in Superman, Peacemaker Season 2, Supergirl, and Lanterns. With so many crossovers, things could become confusing—raising the question of whether the DCU will adopt a chronological timeline, much like the MCU’s layout on Disney+.
That topic came up in a social media Q&A with Gunn earlier this month, and he replied by stating that for now, the DCU timeline matches the release order of its films and shows.
"Right now, it follows the release schedule—although there are naturally some flashbacks—Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker, Lanterns, Supergirl," Gunn clarified.
Disney+ organizes all Marvel movies and series chronologically for a cohesive viewing experience. Gunn's comments suggest HBO Max won't implement something similar immediately, though that may change as more DCU content is released.
Other confirmed upcoming DCU projects include Clayface, slated for September 11, 2026. However, the movie The Authority appears to be facing challenges. According to Gunn, Waller, a Peacemaker spinoff, "has encountered a few setbacks, to be honest." On a brighter note, HBO Max’s Booster Gold "is progressing well," and Paradise Lost remains "very important and we are actively developing it," as Gunn noted.
On the topic of cross-project characters, fans are curious how the Superman film will balance its extensive supporting cast. The most recent trailer featured appearances from Mister Terrific and The Engineer, as well as newcomer The Hammer of Boravia and the enigmatic Ultraman.
