In a recent interview with VideoGamer for the PlayStation: The Concert Tour, Killzone composer Joris de Man shared his hope for the series' return. "I know that there have been petitions for it," de Man noted, acknowledging the fanbase's dedication. He expressed caution, however, saying, "I think it's [tricky] because, I can't speak for Guerrilla or anything... I don't know if it will ever happen. I hope it will because I think it is quite an iconic franchise, but I also think it kind of has to take into account the sensitivities and the shift in, I guess, what people want because it is quite bleak in some ways."

De Man suggested that a remastered collection might be the best way to bring Killzone back, as opposed to a completely new entry. "I think [a] remastered one would be successful, I don't know if a new game would be as much," he said. He pondered whether the gaming community has moved on to prefer more casual, faster-paced experiences, contrasting with Killzone's slower, weightier gameplay. The series, particularly Killzone 2, is remembered for its unique challenges on the PlayStation 3, including apparent input lag, and its dark, gritty atmosphere.

Despite the enthusiasm from fans and figures like de Man, recent comments from Guerrilla to the Washington Post indicate that the studio's focus has shifted to the Horizon series. It's been over a decade since Killzone Shadow Fall, yet the idea of reviving Killzone, or another of Sony's PlayStation shooter franchises, remains appealing to many. While the future is uncertain, it's clear that there are still advocates for Killzone's return within the gaming community.
