Warhorse Studios has officially confirmed that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), their upcoming medieval action-RPG, will launch completely DRM-free. This follows online speculation and numerous inquiries from gamers concerning the inclusion of DRM technology.

Responding to persistent rumors, Warhorse Studios PR head Tobias Stolz-Zwilling definitively stated during a recent Twitch stream that KCD2 will not utilize any DRM system, including Denuvo. He attributed the confusion to misinformation and urged fans to cease inquiries on the matter. Stolz-Zwilling emphasized that any information suggesting otherwise is inaccurate unless officially announced by Warhorse Studios.

"KCD 2 will not have Denuvo, or any DRM at all," Stolz-Zwilling clarified. "We never confirmed it. There were discussions, some misalignment, and misinformation, but ultimately, there will be no Denuvo."

The absence of DRM addresses a common concern among gamers regarding potential performance impacts and negative user experiences associated with certain DRM technologies, particularly Denuvo. While serving as anti-piracy software, Denuvo has faced criticism for alleged performance issues. Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has acknowledged this negative perception, attributing it to misinformation and confirmation bias.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is slated for release in February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Set in medieval Bohemia, the game follows Henry, a blacksmith's apprentice, as he confronts a devastating event impacting his village. Players who contributed at least $200 to the KCD2 Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy of the game.
