While a Death Stranding live-action film was previously announced, series mastermind Hideo Kojima has now revealed an anime version is also in development. During a May 28 interview with Vogue Japan, Kojima discussed the upcoming film while casually mentioning the anime project.

He envisions a future where video games and films seamlessly converge - a primary objective for his studio. Kojima explained, "If Kojima Productions' initial phase involved establishing the 'DEATH STRANDING' IP across multiple platforms while producing a movie and sequel, our next phase focuses on eliminating the boundaries between games and films completely."

Discussing game adaptations, he cited The Last of Us's faithful narrative approach and The Super Mario Bros. Movie's fan-service orientation as valid but distinct styles. Kojima aspires to create cinematic works worthy of recognition at prestigious festivals like Cannes and Venice. He revealed, "We're actually developing an anime adaptation currently."

Though Kojima hinted about a potential anime to Variety in September 2024, this marks the first official confirmation from Kojima Productions. No additional project details have been disclosed as of this writing.

Kojima's Summer Game Fest 2025 Appearance

Summer Game Fest announced via Twitter/X on May 27 that Hideo Kojima will headline their June 6 showcase at 2:00 PM PT. The event will stream across SGF's official YouTube, Twitch, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter/X channels.

While Death Stranding 2 (DS2) updates are anticipated, Kojima may also discuss his other projects including OD and Phsyint. However, promotional focus remains on DS2 following their recent QR code marketing campaign.

'Prepper Awaiting Porter' Viral Campaign

Reddit users discovered a new QR code linking to a video on the game's official website. User soldier_ibra noted this mirrors Japan's Pocket Tissue marketing strategy where QR codes on distributed tissues encourage fan engagement.

Kojima personally distributed these in Tokyo on May 23, sharing the campaign on Twitter. The cryptic "Prepper Awaiting Porter" video features minimal action within a Prepper Shelter - signature Kojima marketing that fans expect will escalate as the launch approaches.
