Mitsuhiro Arita, a renowned artist celebrated for his work on the original Pokémon Trading Card Game, including the coveted Charizard card, is now channeling his talents into a new venture with Magic: The Gathering. Arita's latest contribution is a Secret Lair drop featuring four unique cards, each showcasing his signature style of dragon and creature design.

While Arita is no stranger to Magic: The Gathering, having previously illustrated a borderless version of Lumra, Bellow of the Woods for the Bloomburrow set last year, this Secret Lair drop marks a significant expansion of his work within the game. The inclusion of four new cards in quick succession highlights his growing involvement with Magic.

These new cards are not only visually striking but also strategically relevant across various formats. The iconic Lightning Bolt, a staple in many decks, continues to see play wherever it's legal. Murktide Regent, introduced in Modern Horizons 2 in 2021, has made a significant impact in Modern and Legacy formats. Light-Paws, a popular Commander, and Shorikai, which has found a place in Vintage Cubes and ranks as the 20th most popular Commander according to EDHRec, further underscore the versatility and appeal of Arita's latest creations.

Wizards of the Coast describes this drop on its store page as follows: "With nearly 30 years of experience creating beloved art for trading card games, Mitsuhiro Arita’s work has become some of the most recognizable in the world. His first collaboration with Magic: The Gathering was on a borderless Lumra, Bellow of the Woods released in 2024’s Bloomburrow, which quickly became a fan-favorite. In this Secret Lair Drop, the legendary artist returns to showcase his iconic creature design across four remarkable cards."

As with other Secret Lair drops, this one will be available on the Secret Lair website in non-foil for $29.99 and foil for $39.99. Both versions will be available while supplies last, starting on Monday, February 10 at 9 am PT. Given the rapid sell-out rate of Secret Lairs since Wizards of the Coast transitioned from a timed print-to-order system last year, fans are advised to act quickly to secure their copies.
