An Interconnected World

Nintendo unveiled an expansive world in Mario Kart World where players can freely drive and explore both familiar and new regions. According to Nintendo, "In Mario Kart World, the game’s courses are interspersed across the world with roads leading from one to the next – so players can experience navigating roads in between courses!" This interconnected world is filled with scenic views, iconic landmarks, and hidden items, offering players a chance to enhance their driving skills outside traditional races.

The game introduces a mix of new and classic courses, including Mario Bros. Circuit, Crown City, Salty Salty Speedway, Starview Peak, Boo Cinema, Toad's Factory, Peach Beach, and Wario Shipyard. These classic courses have been creatively reimagined to seamlessly blend into the expansive Mario Kart World experience.

Grand Prix and Knockout Tour

Mario Kart World introduces two main racing formats: Grand Prix and Knockout Tour, both accommodating up to 24 racers, marking the largest field in the series' history. Racers will need to navigate a variety of obstacles, including Bullet Bills from cars and attacks by Hammer Bros.

In the Grand Prix, players compete in four consecutive races to win cups like the Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, and Star Cup. A unique feature is the need to travel between races, culminating in a speculated "colorful course" thought to be Rainbow Road after completing all cups.

The Knockout Tour offers an extended, survival-style race across the world, where racers must finish in a qualifying position to proceed or face elimination from the rally.

Items, Characters, and More

A new arsenal of items, alongside returning favorites, enriches the racing experience. The Coin Shell can knock opponents aside while leaving a trail of coins, the Ice Flower freezes racers on contact, and the Big Mushroom allows players to grow large and squash competitors.

The roster includes classic characters like Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser, joined by new additions such as Goomba, Spike, and even Cow. Players can discover alternate costumes for these characters hidden throughout the world.

Playing With Friends

Mario Kart World offers diverse game modes for players to enjoy, including Time Trials for competitive ghost data battles, customizable VS mode for team races, and Battle mode featuring Coin Runners and Balloon Battle.

The game supports both local and online play, with up to four players racing in split-screen on one system. Local wireless play allows up to eight players (two per Switch 2 device) to race together. The Switch 2's GameChat feature enhances the social aspect, allowing players to chat and view each other's screens.

Additional features include Smart Steering to keep players on track, Auto-accelerate for effortless forward movement, Tilt controls for immersive motion control, and compatibility with the new Joy-Con 2 Wheel for an authentic racing experience.
