In today's Mario Kart World Direct, we delved deeper into the highly anticipated Free Roam mode, which promises an expansive, multiplayer experience across Mario Kart World's vast landscape. Unlike previous Mario Kart games, where racing was confined to specific tracks, Mario Kart World introduces a Forza Horizon-inspired open world map where you can freely navigate from one race track to another and explore the areas in between.

Although we had the opportunity to go hands-on with Mario Kart World last week, today's Direct provided a comprehensive overview of the Free Roam mode. This mode allows players to explore freely, turning the game into a mini-adventure. The world is filled with hidden collectibles such as coins and ? panels, though the exact benefits of collecting these items remain undisclosed. Additionally, P-Switches scattered throughout the environment can trigger small challenges, like collecting blue coins, adding an element of fun and engagement to your exploration.

Free Roam mode also introduces a Photo Mode, enabling players to capture memorable moments of their racers in various poses and from different angles. This feature isn't limited to solo play; you can enjoy Free Roam with friends. Up to four players can roam together on the same system using split-screen mode, while local wireless play supports up to eight players, with two per system. This social aspect allows for group activities like photo-taking, challenge completion, and simply hanging out in the vibrant world of Mario Kart.
