Marvel Rivals Reverses Controversial Mid-Season Rank Reset Decision

Following significant player backlash, Marvel Rivals has reversed its decision to implement mid-season rank resets. The developer announced the change in Dev Talk 11, a swift response to the negative reaction generated by Dev Talk 10, which detailed a plan to reset player ranks by four divisions midway through the season.

The initial proposal, suggesting rank resets every 45 days, was met with criticism from players who felt it was demotivating. In a complete turnaround, Marvel Rivals confirmed that there will be no mid-season rank reset. Players will retain their existing ranks and scores from the first half of the season. End-of-season resets, however, will still occur, resulting in a six-division drop.

Other planned updates remain on track. The highly anticipated addition of Human Torch and The Thing, expanding the hero roster to 39, is still scheduled for release. The developers maintain their commitment to adding two new playable characters per three-month season. Rewards for players achieving Gold rank and above also remain unchanged, with Gold rank and above players receiving an Invisible Woman costume. Grandmaster and above players will receive Crests of Honor. Additional end-of-season rewards, including a new costume for Gold rank and above and Crests of Honor for Grandmaster and above, are also planned. While balance adjustments were mentioned, specifics are yet to be revealed.

The rapid response to player feedback highlights Marvel Rivals’ commitment to community engagement. The developer emphasized their dedication to creating the best possible game experience, directly acknowledging the importance of player input.

The mid-season update is scheduled for February 21, 2025. Marvel Rivals is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
