Chris Pruett, Meta's Director of Games, highlighted the momentum in mixed reality gaming, emphasizing Civ VII VR's appeal to dedicated strategy enthusiasts. Noteworthy is the VR version's absence on PSVR2, despite Civ VII's release on PlayStation consoles.

Immersive Gameplay and Multiplayer Options

Civ VII VR immerses players in a "Command Table" interface, allowing them to strategically manage their civilization from various perspectives. Players can seamlessly switch between VR and MR modes, experiencing the game either fully immersed or integrated with their physical surroundings. The game offers single-player, co-op, and competitive multiplayer modes for up to four players using Meta Quest 3/3S headsets. Online multiplayer necessitates a 2K and Meta account.

Addressing Player Feedback and Future Updates

Firaxis Games actively responded to player feedback gathered during Civ VII's early access period (February 6th, 2025, for Deluxe/Founder's Edition owners). The team acknowledged concerns regarding the user interface (UI) on Steam, promising significant improvements to enhance intuitiveness, map readability, and overall polish. Further updates will include community-requested features such as team multiplayer, diverse map types, and more. A quality-of-life update is slated for March, focusing on UI adjustments, AI balancing, diplomacy refinements, and bug fixes.
