Microsoft Apologizes for MSFS 2024 Launch Issues

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024: Addressing a Turbulent Launch
The highly anticipated release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 experienced a challenging launch, marked by significant server issues, bugs, and instability. In a YouTube video, Jorg Neumann (MSFS head) and Sebastian Wloch (Asobo Studio CEO) addressed player concerns and explained the reasons behind the problems.
Unexpectedly High User Numbers Strain Servers
Neumann and Wloch acknowledged the immense excitement surrounding the game's release but admitted they underestimated the sheer number of players attempting to access the servers simultaneously. This influx overwhelmed the game's infrastructure, leading to widespread connectivity problems. Wloch detailed the technical issues, explaining that the initial login process involves retrieving data from a server database. While the system had been stress-tested with 200,000 simulated users, the actual player count significantly exceeded this, causing the database cache to repeatedly collapse.
Login Queues, Missing Content, and Negative Steam Reviews
Attempts to mitigate the problem by increasing queue size and speed proved temporary. The server overload resulted in extended loading times, often freezing at 97% completion. Furthermore, players reported missing aircraft and other content, a direct consequence of the server's inability to deliver complete data packages. This led to a predominantly negative player response on Steam, with many expressing frustration over long queues and missing game assets.
Addressing the Issues and Moving Forward
Despite the initial setbacks, the development team has been actively working to resolve the issues. The Steam page now indicates that the problems have been addressed, and player access is being managed to ensure stability. A sincere apology was issued, and the team committed to keeping players updated on their progress. The developers expressed gratitude for the feedback and ongoing support from the community.
