In a recent interview at Gamescom, Mortal Kombat co-founder Ed Boon delved into the unique approaches being taken with Omni-Man and Homelander in Mortal Kombat 1. Boon addressed the fans' concerns about potential similarities in combat styles between these two characters, emphasizing that the developers at NetherRealm are committed to making them distinctly different.

Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently

During the interview with IGN, Boon explained how the team plans to differentiate the abilities of these iconic heroes. He highlighted the creative freedom they have with these characters but stressed their intention to avoid overlap in their capabilities, particularly avoiding shared Superman-like powers. Boon stated, “Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that.”

Boon also shared that the development team has drawn inspiration from the heroes' actions in their respective shows to craft unique Fatalities for each character. He emphasized that the main attacks of Homelander and Omni-Man will significantly differ, ensuring players experience two distinct playstyles. Boon acknowledged the initial assumptions some fans might have had about the characters being similar, but reassured that the team is actively working to dispel those notions.
