Player First Games announced the imminent closure of MultiVersus, its Warner Bros. platform fighter. Season 5, launching February 4th, 2025, will be the game's last, ending May 30th, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio detailed the discontinuation of support in a blog post.

The game, released May 28th, 2024, will remain playable offline after May 30th, allowing access to all acquired content via local and training modes. Online play will cease at that time. The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude for player support.

Real-money transactions are now unavailable, but Gleamium and character tokens can be used until the May 30th shutdown. The game will be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store concurrently.

MultiVersus' closure follows reports of its underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a substantial $100 million writedown, contributing to a $300 million total writedown for the games sector in 2024. This financial setback, along with the underperformance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, contributed to the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad.

Despite the shutdown, Season 5 will include new content, notably the addition of Lola Bunny (unlockable via daily calendar) and Aquaman (available through the battle pass) as playable characters. These characters will be available starting next week.
