Suits remains a beloved TV series, maintaining popularity nearly 15 years after its 2011 debut on USA Network. Its recent resurgence stemmed from Netflix making all seasons available, fueling binge-watching marathons. However, this renewed interest wasn't enough to save the spinoff Suits LA, which NBC axed during its fall schedule announcement. Why? NBC's president of program planning Jeff Bader clarified the network's reasoning.

"Discussing show renewals is always challenging," Bader told Variety following the schedule release. "While Suits LA had a brief run, it failed to connect with audiences as anticipated. Fans speculate about various reasons, but ultimately the series lacked long-term growth potential."

"These decisions require careful evaluation," Bader continued. "We analyze program performance across linear TV and digital platforms – assessing stability, growth trends, and decline patterns before making tough choices."

The executive noted NBCUniversal typically considers transferring canceled shows to Peacock, but Suits LA didn't qualify for this option. Regarding show renewals – particularly amidst NBA programming demands – Bader revealed NBC's evaluation criteria.

"We examine weekly performance metrics across platforms to identify strong ratings performers," Bader explained. "Creatively, we assess which shows demonstrate the greatest potential for attracting new viewership."

The original Suits aired from 2011-2019 across nine seasons. The spinoff launched in February starring Stephen Amell and Lex Scott Davis, featuring cameos from original cast members Rick Hoffman and Gabriel Macht. Creator Aaron Korsh helmed both series, with the spinoff concluding its run on May 11, 2025.
