FNaF Behavior Unveiled in Dead by Daylight Crossover

As Dead by Daylight approaches its ninth anniversary, developer Behaviour Interactive is delivering a dream collaboration fans have demanded for years - Five Nights at Freddy's arrives June 17. This landmark Chapter brings Scott Cawthon's animatronic horror universe to DBD after extensive development, marking both the culmination of fan requests and signaling exciting future crossovers.
The Big Reveal: Behind the Collaboration
IGN spoke exclusively with Creative Director Dave Richard and Killer Designer Jason Guzzo ahead of today's PTB launch to understand how this crossover honors FNaF's legacy while introducing innovative gameplay mechanics. Their insights reveal the creative process behind Springtrap's terrifying abilities and tease potential future horror collaborations.
Designing Terror: Bringing Springtrap to Life
The team faced unique challenges adapting FNaF's surveillance-focused gameplay into DBD's asymmetrical format. "We watched countless hours of gameplay footage, especially Markiplier's legendary FNaF runs," Guzzo revealed. This research led to innovative mechanics like:
- Surveillance doors acting as tactical teleportation points
- Jump scare attack animations preserving FNaF's signature terror
- A projectile system enabling creative trick attacks
Richard emphasized authenticity: "When we revealed Springtrap at PAX, the crowd's reaction shook the floor. That moment proved we'd captured the essence players wanted."
Solving the Survivor Question
The Chapter notably omits a Survivor character. Richard explained this creative decision stemmed from FNaF's early narrative where "security is everyone." However, he teased future possibilities: "The FNaF universe is vast. Additional content remains possible."
Map Secrets Await
The Freddy Fazbear's Pizza map meticulously recreates locations from the games with deadly twists. "We packed surprises throughout," Richard hinted. "Players will discover lore references and unexpected scares as they navigate familiar spaces transformed for DBD gameplay."
The Future of Horror Crossovers
When asked about dream collaborations, Guzzo passionately advocated for "The Thing," while Richard playfully mentioned horror classics like Cujo. Their enthusiasm confirms Behaviour's commitment to expanding DBD's terrifying roster while maintaining each franchise's unique identity.
The PTB launches today, inviting players to experience Springtrap's terrifying potential firsthand. As Richard summarized: "This collaboration represents our love letter to both FNaF's legacy and Dead by Daylight's passionate community."
