Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025

Following a series of Nintendo Switch 2 leaks originating from CES 2025, Nintendo issued an uncommon statement clarifying that the circulating images are not official. This unusual response stems from accessory manufacturer Genki's display of a purported Switch 2 replica at the event.

The statement, given to the Sankei Shimbun, simply notes that Nintendo is not an official participant in CES 2025, therefore any Switch 2 imagery from the show is unofficial. This declaration, while seemingly obvious, represents a rare instance of Nintendo publicly addressing product leaks.

The Switch 2 has been the subject of numerous leaks since late 2024, possibly due to its reported entry into mass production around that time. Genki's presentation of a replica immediately generated widespread online attention.

Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?

While Nintendo didn't comment on the accuracy of Genki's replica, its design aligns with previous leaks and rumors. The most significant difference from the original Switch is an additional button, labeled "C," located below the right Joy-Con's home button. Its function remains unknown. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai also suggested the Switch 2's Joy-Cons will use magnetic attachment and function as a mouse, corroborating existing speculation.

Nintendo's Timeline and Pricing

Nintendo previously announced plans to unveil the Switch successor during its fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation for an official announcement remains high. A retail launch is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point of around $399.
