After a two-year hiatus, Nintendo is confirmed to return to Summer Game Fest in 2025. Here’s what to expect from Nintendo's presence at the event, along with fan predictions for major reveals during the Xbox Games Showcase.

With Summer Game Fest 2025 just over a week away, excitement is building around this year's announcements. In a May 28 post on X (formerly Twitter), SGF revealed a record-breaking lineup of more than 60 partners—including the return of Japanese gaming giant Nintendo.

Nintendo skipped the last two Summer Game Fest events, favoring their own Nintendo Direct presentations. This year marks a notable comeback, especially as the company prepares to launch its highly anticipated next-generation handheld console, the Switch 2.

That said, Nintendo’s involvement doesn’t necessarily mean a full-stage presentation. Attendees and viewers can look forward to new details on the Switch 2, along with potential game trailers for upcoming titles.

Xbox Games Showcase: Everwild and State of Decay 3 May Appear

Another tech giant, Xbox, is also set to appear as it has for several years running. In collaboration with Summer Game Fest, Xbox will host its annual Xbox Games Showcase during the weekend event. Besides expected titles like the new Call of Duty, Gears of War: E-Day and Reloaded, and Outer Wilds 2—which will receive a dedicated Direct—fans are hoping to see updates on two other high-profile games.

One is State of Decay 3, first unveiled during the 2020 Xbox Games Showcase. Over four years later, at the 2024 showcase, a new cinematic trailer featured rendered in-game assets—hinting at meaningful development progress.

In fact, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer appears to be among the game’s eager fans. Speaking with Xbox Era in February 2025 about upcoming titles, Spencer said, “State of Decay is one of those franchises I’ve always loved since the original. It’s definitely still on our radar. I'm impressed with the work Double Fine is doing and how Tim integrates team feedback.”

Spencer also referenced Rare’s new IP, Everwild, which debuted in 2019. Described as “a unique and unforgettable experience set in a natural and magical world,” the title received a progress update during the same interview. Spencer noted, “During my recent visit to Rare, it was great to see how the team is moving forward with Everwild.”

These recent comments and ongoing fan speculation suggest both games could appear at this year’s Xbox Games Showcase. Still, these are only rumors—Xbox has yet to confirm what will be highlighted during the event.
