The Nintendo Switch 2 reveal this morning lends significant credence to earlier rumors about Joy-Con mouse functionality.

The reveal trailer showcases detached Joy-Cons placed attachment-side down on a surface, connecting to flat-bottomed connectors. These then move across the surface, mimicking mousepad movement. A visible slider pad on one connector further supports this theory.

Pre-reveal speculation centered on a Joy-Con sensor, similar to those in computer mice. Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed this feature or its implications. Fans envision its use in traditionally mouse-and-keyboard games like Civilization, while others anticipate innovative applications within first-party Nintendo titles. The possibilities remain open.

While much about potential mouse support (and the new Joy-Con button's function) remains unknown, we have key information: the console's name (Nintendo Switch 2), its 2025 release, and an upcoming Mario Kart title. Backward compatibility with the original Switch is confirmed, with further software details to be revealed in an April Direct. Stay tuned for ongoing Switch 2 coverage.
