Updated January 14: This article's original Discord server link has been corrected to reflect the accurate source of the datamining information. The original article follows:

Key Findings

• The Nintendo Switch 2's rumored "C" button may facilitate chat functions.
• Datamining suggests a group and voice chat feature, codenamed "Campus," for the Switch 2.
• The official Switch 2 reveal is expected on January 16th.

Recent reports suggest the Nintendo Switch 2's rumored extra button, a dark gray "C," located on the right Joy-Con, might be dedicated to chat functionality. This could resolve a significant mystery surrounding the console's hardware.

Leaks regarding the Switch 2 have proliferated since late 2024, likely due to the console entering mass production. These leaks consistently show an additional button compared to the original Switch, but its purpose remained unclear until now.

Datamining of the latest Switch OS reveals a feature codenamed "Campus," potentially a group and voice chat system for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. This originates from a Discord server focused on Switch 2 information. The "C" button's designation might therefore stand for "chat" rather than "Campus." This refutes the popular theory that the button would facilitate screen casting.

Screen Sharing Capabilities

The same datamine suggests "Campus" will include screen sharing for up to 12 users within chat groups.

Potential Conflict with Kid-Friendly Design

Since group and voice chats require online connectivity, they'd likely be exclusive to NSO subscribers. This contrasts with the original Switch's kid-friendly design, which intentionally omitted such features. Reintroducing chat functionality could introduce concerns Nintendo may wish to avoid.

The existence and function of the "C" button, along with other Switch 2 details, should be confirmed with the official announcement expected on Thursday, January 16th.
