Nvidia unveiled the RTX 5060 alongside the RTX 5060 Ti back in April 2025, but the more budget-friendly GPU is now officially available following an announcement at Computex.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 starts at $299, offering 3,840 CUDA cores across 30 Streaming Multiprocessors, which should provide solid 1080p gaming performance. Nvidia makes some impressive claims for this resolution. For example, they state the RTX 5060 can achieve 223 fps in Doom: The Dark Ages at 1080p with max settings—though this is with multi-frame generation set to 4x.

That capability is a key selling point Nvidia is emphasizing for this generation. While the RTX 5060 is the most accessible model, it comes with full support for Multi-Frame Generation and the rest of the DLSS 4 technology suite. However, with only 30 SMs, it's important to understand there are still inherent limits to what DLSS can achieve.

It's also worth noting that the $299 price is merely a starting point. While a few models will be available at that entry price, many versions of the RTX 5060 will cost significantly more, often justified by premium features like factory overclocking and integrated RGB lighting.

Reviews Are Coming... Later

Even though the RTX 5060 is positioned as an affordable card—assuming the $299 MSRP is widely honored—it's wise to wait for performance benchmarks before making a purchase. Nvidia's bold performance figures are all based on having Multi-Frame Generation enabled, and real-world performance can only be verified through independent testing.

Unfortunately, that testing will be delayed. Unlike previous launches in this generation, such as the RTX 5090, Nvidia is not providing an early driver to the press. Consequently, in-depth reviews likely won't appear for at least the first week after the GPU's release. While the RTX 5060 is expected to be a competent 1080p card, the rest of the Blackwell lineup has shown limited generational improvements.

The RTX 5060 might follow a similar performance trend as the RTX 5070 compared to its predecessor, especially in traditional gaming without frame generation. When questioned about the performance uplift over the RTX 4060, Nvidia stated the 5060 could deliver up to double the performance with frame generation enabled, but only about a 20% increase in games without ray tracing or frame generation—and that likely represents a best-case scenario.

As with any significant tech purchase, my recommendation is to wait for independent reviews before buying. This ensures you understand exactly what you're getting for your money. Those reviews are on the way; they might just take a few extra days to publish.
