Nvidia Warns of RTX 5090, 5080 Stock Shortage Before Release
The highly anticipated Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are set to launch on January 30, but concerns about shortages are mounting. Reports from retailers and brands suggest that these high-end GPUs, priced at $1,999 and $999 respectively, might be difficult to obtain due to limited supply. Enthusiasts are already camping outside stores, eager to secure one of these sought-after graphics cards.
MSI, a leading manufacturer, has indicated through WCCFTech that the initial stock of these GPUs will be constrained due to the Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year. The impact is expected to be felt in the first wave of releases, with supply anticipated to improve as February progresses.

Retailers like Overclockers UK have claimed they've received only "single digits" of the RTX 5090 at present, with a mere "few hundred" RTX 5080 units available for launch last week. U.S. retailer PowerGPU echoed these concerns on Twitter, stating that the RTX 5090's launch would be the "worst when it comes to availability."
In response to growing concerns, Nvidia's Tim@Nvidia issued a statement on the company's official forum titled “GeForce RTX 50 Series Availability,” which reads:
“We expect significant demand for the GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 and believe stock-outs may happen. Nvidia and our partners are shipping more stock to retail every day to help get GPUs into the hands of gamers.”
Amidst the anticipation and limited stock, scalpers are seizing the opportunity, with RTX 5090 GPUs already listed on eBay as "pre-sale." One notable listing showcases an Asus ROG Astral RTX 5090 from a collectibles reseller for a staggering $5,750, marking an 187% increase over the original $1,999 MSRP.
Adding another layer of complexity, Nvidia faces challenges in the stock market this week. The company's share price tumbled by 16.86% on Monday after the emergence of the Chinese AI model DeepSeek, which claims to have been trained for just $6 million, potentially threatening Nvidia's datacenter GPU sales.
