Oblivion Remastered Mods Released Online

May 16,25(1 years ago)

Bethesda has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered does not feature official mod support, yet this hasn't deterred the game's passionate fanbase from releasing a series of unofficial mods. Just hours after Bethesda and Virtuos' surprise release of the Oblivion reimagining for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, a variety of community-created mods surfaced on the popular platform, Nexus Mods. These early mods, while primarily offering minor customization options, underscore the dedication of The Elder Scrolls modding community.

At the time of writing, a remarkable 22 mods were already available on the site. The first mod to be released enabled PC players to customize their desktop by swapping out the default Oblivion Remastered shortcut with one of two images featuring the game's notorious Adoring Fan. Other mods include options to bypass the introductory Bethesda and Virtuos logo screens, as well as modifications that adjust gameplay, such as tweaking the Wizard's Fury spell and removing the in-game compass.

This initial wave of mods comes despite Bethesda's announcement that Oblivion Remastered would not support official mods. The company detailed this decision in an FAQ section on its website, confirming that players would need to look elsewhere for modding capabilities.

One Nexus Mods user, GodschildGaming, released their Iron Longsword damage mod to demonstrate that modding is indeed possible with Oblivion Remastered. In the mod's description, they stated, "This is just to prove modding is possible. Bethesda says no mod support, I say false. It really is Unreal slapped on top of Oblivion, the data folder is nested in a lot more folders but same concept."

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, launched 19 years after the original, is now available on PC and consoles. As more players dive into the game in the coming weeks and months, the modding community is expected to grow, offering increasingly diverse and innovative ways to personalize the gaming experience. While awaiting further mod releases, you can explore discussions on why some consider this release more of a remake than a remaster, and the reasoning behind Bethesda's choice of the "Remastered" label.
